Observations From The Field

Video Stores: So I've recently come to realize that video stores are not family friendly. My kids are 7, 5, & almost 1, I have no idea why it took me so long to figure this out, I guess I'm a slow learner. This revelation hit me as our family innocently walked the new release isle looking for some good family movies to rent. I turned around and saw my son staring at a video cover of a very mean looking Santa Claus wielding a bloody knife. I quickly grabbed him with my hands over his eyes and pulled him away while hollering for Amelle to come with us. I was rushing frantically, as if THE WORLD was about to molest my children. I looked around and saw things that were never apparent to me before - DVD covers with women kissing other women, scary murderer types with chainsaws and other murder-weapons, mostly-naked women seductively posed, foul named movies, ghetto gangsters embracing dollar bills.. ....all the things that I am trying to sheild my children from in one place. I was mortified. It's amazing, the things about our society that I am trying to protect my children from are the very things that are being shamelessly promoted. Jesus come quickly!

Aunt isn't a three letter word: I can't understand why people call aunts "ants". An aunt is one thing (a female family member) and an ant is something entirely different (a small, hardworking insect). Where is the confusion? Sound it out!

Not a day goes by that I'm not thankful that we cut Amelle's hair. Life is good! I stumbled across this picture of Amelle "pre-haircut" - she had been walking around with one of Amaya's pacifiers in her hair and she didn't even know it. I guess when you accidently and unknowingly carry objects around in your hair, it's time to get a trim!

That really bugs me, too. People in the South have actually corrected me for using the word "aunt" instead of "ant". Quote, "your New England accent is showing again". I have told them to go look it up in the dictionary!

Isn't there a childrens section in the video stores? I am not a frequent visitor, so I cannot comment.

We are so happy that Amelle's hair is shorter, however, she would be beautiful with any lenght hair!

I know what you mean about the video store! If you go to the Movie Gallery, there is a children's section - but once you have to pay, you leave the secure section of fuzzy animals and pretty princesses and into a vile world of "Girls Gone Wild VII" and "Nightmare on Elm Street Part 23." Some of the covers actually scare me!

I find it ironic how they have a "backroom" where the "adult" videos are kept. As if what we see in the actual store isn't "adult" enough!

Video stores are bad enough, but I think grocery stores are just as bad - forget the internet today I was looking for words to a song & I was put in an Adult Porn site - I had to shut my computer off to get it off my screen!

Come quickly Lord Jesus - Amen

I can't wait to see Jacka$$ 2. Saw Nightmare on Elm Street as well as the movie about the Evil Santa Claus. I loved them all. Guess I am a bad person. Try Netflix.....

Question about the Aunt pronunciation - why don't we say it the same way as punt, hunt or grunt? - But I also say dawg, doorter & sewder. (dog, daughter & soda)
Mrs. B
P.S. Are we allowed two comments on one blog? I didn't know the rules.

I'm actually also looking forward to Jack$$s 2 - I thought the first one was hilarious. I guess you can't expect anything less from someone who loves re-runs of South Park (and who can't wait for the new season to start in 2 days!!) and the Dave Chapelle show. I am such a bad, bad person!!
