Day 3: Grand Canyon...Lesson III

People are stupid.
Easy enough to read, right?

...for those who can't read

(notice, no rails)

This bright lady hopped the safety railing with her young son, onto the snowy and icy ledge, just a few feet from a 7000? foot drop into death...

That's crazy!! When my ex-boyfriend and I went to the Grand Canyon I was very nervous near the edges, and I actually became obsessed with reading about people who fell into it. We went to the gift shop and there were all of these books about people who fell over the ledge!! Some people are really dumb! There were actually pictures in the book of the people falling. One guy asked his friend to take his picture after he hopped over the railing. The rocks of course weren't stable (that's wht they have the railings) and he fell to his death. The friend still took the picture....

Thanks for the edits! I posted these pictures quickly today before I had an opportunity to write my captions...

All set now!

I wonder how many people fall over the ledge every year - you never hear about that...

Unfortunately there was a very sad story recently where a 4-year old girl (I believe she was 4) was visiting with her family and she fell over the edge. Her father scrambled down frantically to try and save her to no avail. I don't believe the drop was as high as 7000 feet, but it was high enough. Very sad.

Just looking at those pictures makes my stomach feel queasy.

Horrific, I wouldn't take any of my kids there without a leash.

I don't take the kids anywhere w/o their leash and a water bowl. You just never know.
