Locks of Love II

Amelle made her second generous donation to Locks of Love today. Here is the new Amelle:She loves her new hair! She has been flinging it around and running her fingers through it all afternoon. I don't think either of us expected it to be as short as it is, but we're fine with it. The fact that she gave 10 inches less than 2 years ago and is able to give 10 again (with a 2" trim in between) means that her hair grows really, really fast. So it's all good. The added benefit of course is the ease in which we'll be able to comb her hair all summer. (It took Dirt 2 hours to get through half of her head on Thursday!) Oh, and because Amelle has so much hair, she was actually able to donate 2 10-inch ponytails!

Go Amelle!! That is such a wonderful thing to do!!

Ashlyn will be doing it again soon--I am having the same difficulty brushing her hair every morning.

One of the women in the salon said, "Oh, Sweetie, you're donating your hair, that's such a nice thing to do!"

Amelle: [silent scowl]

Nearly 2 years have gone by and still, she doesn't like giving her belongings away. "Why do they have to get my hair?" It's not that she minded getting it cut, she just didn't want to give it to someone else. She's very selfish about her things, I don't know where that comes from, her brother would give away all of his possessions if we'd let him. She doesn't want to give her hand-me-downs away (even when they don't fit!), she even gripes about filling the shoebox for "Operation Christmas", "why dot THEY get to have that, that's no fair, I wanted a yo-yo".

Hopefully she'll come to understand that we have nothing; everything is on loan to us from the One who was gracious enough to lend it to us. :-)

If I'm 100% honest, I don't love it, it's about 2 inches shorter than I would've liked, but I figured that the 2 inches would grow back in about 2 months and in the meantime, they'd be making wigs for sick kids. Sylvia called me today and was livid. I had to laugh, she said, "find a new cause! ...Give some pants or something away, leave Amelle's hair out of it!"

I am glad it's over, I've been dreading that call, it's really the first time in 12 years that I've been afraid of my sweet MIL!

Look, hair grows back and, in Amelle's case, especially fast.

Some little girl, who has lost her hair due to the ravaging effects of chemo, is going to get a wig made of Amelle's beautiful hair.

I think if Sylvia could see the final results of this cause she may think differently.

I just feel bad for the next set of parents who have to comb it!
